Duxbury Select Board Approves $3.2 Million Beach Nourishment Deal With Marshfield

DUXBURY — November 15, 2023 — Duxbury Select Board approves $3.2 million inter-municipal beach nourishment agreement with Marshfield. The board voted in favor of the deal at its November 15 meeting, authorizing a project that will truck in nearly 500,000 cubic yards of sand to replenish eroded beaches along Bay Avenue and Gner Road, with work set to begin this winter and conclude in spring 2024. The nourishment effort is tied directly to a $20 million seawall reconstruction previously approved at town meeting, which officials say requires a restored sand base to be effective. Residents raised concerns at the meeting about whether imported sand would match the naturally occurring material at the beaches, and a public outreach session has been scheduled for December to address those questions.
