Selectboard · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Duxbury's Selectboard continued a public hearing on Verizon's cable license to September 14 after members said no written contract was provided before the vote. Town Manager Rainey Reed told the board the packet never arrived because an attorney had a death in the family; outside cable counsel Miranda Cecil of KP Law said Verizon offered the maximum 5 percent gross revenue share plus a $90,000 capital grant over five years, up from $45,000 in 2020. Selectboard member Fernando Guitart asked "what is the best contract" the town could get, questioning why Comcast never had a chance to bid first.
The board separately appointed Planning Director Matthew Hines as the town's local government representative for a new state clean-energy permitting law taking effect October 1, and approved a $711.75 water bill abatement after Assistant Superintendent Dan Gage said a staff error, not a faulty meter, caused two inflated bills.
