Board of Health · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Duxbury Board of Health unanimously approves a septic variance letting a failing system sit 100 feet from wetlands instead of 150. Shane McGlone presented the replacement plan for homeowner Beth Nelson's three-bedroom system, moving it from a 70-foot wetland buffer to 100 feet with no increase in flow. Separately, the board continued a contested shared-well variance for 27 Elder Brewster Road and 34 Samuset Street, asking applicant Peter Lawrence to record a revised agreement before the September 17 meeting.
Becky of the Duxbury Safe Water Committee told the board PFAS filtration could cost "almost $150,000 a year" for three town wells, and said the Select Board voted to oppose an NRC rule change. Health Agent Lauren Hache said the state's new kratom Schedule 1 order, following 91 reported deaths since 2020, gives Duxbury a year to develop local enforcement.
