Duxbury Board of Health Backs State Denial of Pilgrim Wastewater Discharge Permit

DUXBURY -- August 21, 2023, Duxbury's Board of Health voted to support a state move to deny a wastewater discharge permit tied to the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station decommissioning. The board agreed at its August 21 meeting to send a letter to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection backing the agency's tentative decision to deny a permit that would allow Holtec International, the company overseeing Pilgrim's decommissioning since its 2019 closure, to discharge 1.1 million gallons of wastewater into Cape Cod Bay. A public hearing on MassDEP's proposed denial is scheduled for August 24 at 6 p.m. at Plymouth Town Hall, with live coverage on PAC TV government channels and the Plymouth Meetings YouTube channel.
