Board of Health · Meeting of October 15, 2026

Duxbury Board of Health approved two septic and well variances while continuing a shared-well dispute on Samoset Street. The board unanimously granted a 73.6-foot setback variance for a new irrigation well at 13 Summerhouse Lane after the original, conforming site failed to produce water. It also unanimously approved a Singulair aerobic treatment system allowing Boxwood Lane to add two bedrooms, bringing the home to six, inside a Zone II wellhead protection area, with conditions requiring quarterly-then-semiannual nitrogen testing and an emergency generator hookup.

Samoset Street property owner Peter Lawrence told the board, "I feel so badly there's probably 40 wells out here, 30 wells, but no one has the restriction," questioning why his shared well faces flow and testing conditions others reportedly lack. Chair Karen Tepper said she wants the board to revisit shared-well and flow-rate regulations more broadly, likely through a future public hearing. Member Melissa Rosenbladt said the Boxwood Lane upgrade should help reduce nitrogen loading near a nearby water body.
