Select Board delays vote on North Hill Marsh conservation transfer
DUXBURY — September 20, 2023 — Duxbury Select Board holds off on transferring North Hill Marsh land to Conservation Commission. The board heard a proposal at its September 20 meeting to give the Conservation Commission custody of the southern portion of the North Hill Marsh area, land that is currently unprotected and has previously been eyed for housing development and golf course expansion. Cemetery Trustees Chair Bob Hayes raised a complication, noting that some of the parcel had been conveyed to the trustees in exchange for the land used to build the Duxbury Senior Center, and that a conservation transfer would permanently block future cemetery expansion. The board deferred a vote to allow the Conservation Commission, Cemetery Trustees, and other boards to coordinate, with the next meeting scheduled for October 2.
