Finance Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Duxbury Finance Committee backs letter supporting historic status for Powder Point Bridge. Members voted 6-0-1 to have a committee member draft a letter supporting Section 106 National Register eligibility for the 1986-built bridge, which they said would not bind the town but could add leverage over MassDOT's design and open additional grant funding. The panel also voted 7-0-0 to name a liaison, referred to as Lynn or Ling, to the Powder Point Bridge Advisory Committee.

One member, identified as Candace, objected that the group was discussing engineering decisions that belong to town staff, saying "this is Sheila Scarzi's job to hire engineers." A town finance official, Mary, told the committee roughly $10 million in federal fiscal 2027 bridge funding remains unobligated, inside a federal window running through September 2031, and that department budget guidance from the Select Board is still pending ahead of a September 14 revenue presentation.
