Finance Committee Approves $35,000 Fire Truck Repair

Finance Committee · Meeting of October 1, 2026

Duxbury Finance Committee presses CPC on a ballooning $6.5 million reserve. The committee voted 7-0 to approve a $35,000 reserve-fund transfer, Department 220, to replace the engine in the fire department's 2016 forestry truck after advanced emissions equipment damaged its cylinder rings from years of weekly idling; repair quotes ranged from Georgia's Garage's $29,000 to Colonial Ford's $37,000. Community Preservation Committee Chair Holly told the panel its four reserve buckets total $6.5 million and are projected to top $8 million by June 30.

Vice Chair Friend Weiler said the town's "view of planning has forced us into a position where the burden for running this town is on the residential property tax," while member Jackson Kent Jr. said he wants the CPC to "spend the money better...rather than curtailing" the 3 percent surcharge.
