Duxbury Select Board Reviews Plan for Limited Beach Drive-On Access

DUXBURY — July 26, 2023 — Duxbury Select Board reviews limited beach reopening plan amid piping plover closures. Town Manager Raianne Reed outlined a proposal to allow drive-on access for up to 100 vehicles at Duxbury Beach, pending approval from the state and the Duxbury Beach Reservation, as piping plover nesting requirements continue to restrict access under Massachusetts law. Residents raised concerns about economic losses to local businesses and traffic backups at Powder Point Bridge. The board increased police presence to manage both congestion and a reported rise in vandalism. The back road and all crossovers remain closed until further notice, and the board said it could not predict when full access would be restored.
