Select Board approves youth baseball's Wadsworth Field gift
Duxbury's Select Board voted Oct. 19 to accept a donated batting cage and solar scoreboard from Duxbury Youth Baseball for installation at Wadsworth Field, with the scoreboard set between two trees in left-center field and the single-tunnel batting cage placed in left field foul territory.
DUXBURY --
TOWN
At its Oct. 19 meeting, the Select Board voted unanimously to accept a donation from Duxbury Youth Baseball consisting of one batting cage and one solar scoreboard to be installed at the Wadsworth Field facility. Gary Williamson, representing Duxbury Youth Baseball, told the board the batting cage would match the style of cages previously donated by the group at Keene Street Field, but with a single batting tunnel, measuring 55 feet long, 17 feet wide and 12 feet high, located in left field foul territory along the tree line. The solar scoreboard would sit in left-center field between two existing trees along the fence and Route 3A. Board member Brian asked whether the scoreboard would include lights that could shine onto Tremont Street; Williamson said the unit is field-facing, battery-operated and controlled by remote, and would go dark after games. The board approved the gifts with final placement subject to town verification before installation.
YOUTH LEAGUES
Duxbury Youth Basketball announced that registration is now open for its 2026-2027 Winter Travel Season, covering travel teams for boys and girls from fourth to eighth grade. The program noted that families seeking an in-town option can instead register for the Duxbury Recreation Department's "rec" basketball program.
